I believe one of the best ways to teach geography is to tie it to our children's interest.
Football season is in full swing, so I printed NFL team logos and a wall map from this website, and had Andrew place the logos on the correct states.
As he watches football with his dad, he refers to his map to find out where different teams are located. We also refer to his map to locate states we hear about in news stories and find out where his dad is when he travels for work.
Here's a look at our map:
We're partial to the Cowboys!
This is a simple project you can tailor for any interest, and best of all, it's free! Here are some additional ideas for homeschooling geography.

Wow, that gives me so many great ideas. I just found your blog and have been reading through posts. They are very inspirational. I'm a mother of 4 and my oldest is to start kindergarten in the fall and am wanting to homeschool but a bit scared by it and am unsure if I have what it takes. I'm trying to do research and see how people do it. I just feel like 5 is to young for a child to be away from their mother all day long. Thanks for the great blog.
